Costs

The primary costs for participants in the program are your own travel to, and incidentals for, Design Week.  This is the last week of the program each year.  For SMDS 2025 there are no participation fees.  Accommodation is provided in campus halls for non-Cornell students.  Typically, accommodation includes shared bathroom and kitchen facilities.  Bedrooms are shared between two, though upgrading to individual bedrooms can be provided for a fee.    Cornell students who do not have regular housing throughout the summer can request access to this accommodation as well.

Food is provided throughout Design Week.  Specifically, breakfast and lunch each day is catered on Campus.   We also host a BBQ welcome event on Sunday and a Reception event at the end of the program on Friday night.  Vouchers for the remaining dinners (Mo-Th) are available for Halls.  There are no additional reimbursement opportunities relating to food.
You should assume that you need to cover your own costs for travel to the program.  We can organize parking passes onsite for those who drive to Ithaca.  We also have limited bus passes for transport in town which can be used to visit the city from campus.  For those staying in  campus accommodation the distance to Upson Hall is very walkable in pleasant weather, and free by bus when not!
There are some external grants available for additional funding that participants are encouraged to check: https://experience.cornell.edu/opportunities
