Maryame El Moutamid

Principal Investigator: Maryame El Moutamid

My name is Maryame El Moutamid, I was born and raised in a small town in Morocco by the Atlantic. When I turned 18, I was one of the very few lucky young students to obtain a visa and move to France for my undergraduate studies. I lived in Paris for more than 10 years and I am very fluent in Arabic, English and French, both written and spoken. After I received my PhD at the Paris Observatory, I moved to the United States for postdoctoral research at Cornell University. My life so far has been spread between 3 countries that I loved living in and gave me many opportunities to meet and also work with people from different cultures and backgrounds. My personal and work experience in such diverse environments has taught me to adapt to unexpected and difficult situations, and also work synergistically within interdisciplinary research teams with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Currently, I am a senior research associate at the Cornell Center of Astrophysics and Planetary Sciences. My field of expertise is in orbital dynamics, celestial mechanics, and analysis of spacecraft data. My current research is focused on planetary ring dynamics and satellite orbital dynamics, and their connections with giant planet interior structure. I am also working on multi-chord stellar occultation of stars by solar system bodies. My more recent work is focused on determining masses and orbital eccentricities in order to improve characterization pf exoplanet pairs in mean motion resonances from Transit Time Variations (TTVs).
